Tropical Traditions all natural insect repellent is made from only the finest ingredients available, and is therefore completely safe for children and for application to the entire body including the face. We use no harmful chemicals or artificial fragrances. Our base, as with all our skin care products, is our very own Virgin Coconut Oil. Natural coconut oil has been used to apply to the skin and ward off insects traditionally in tropical climates for hundreds of years. In addition, we have added pure organic essential oils known to repel insects, including citronella, lemongrass, peppermint, tansy, and catnip. Catnip oil has recently been tested against mosquitoes in a clinical test run by Iowa State University. Entomologist Chris Peterson, Ph.D., says that catnip oil should protect from all kinds of mosquitoes, which include the so-called yellow fever mosquitoes, and those carrying the West Nile Virus.

Not only does it work against mosquitoes but also pesky flies. The important thing I wanted to mention was the healing power as an "after bite" lotion. When I get bit on the ankles, I swell up quite a bit and it gets inflamed. This happened to me recently and I took the Tropical Traditions Insect Repellant and rubbed it into the inflamed area in a circular motion for about 30 seconds.
